I am running OSX 10.8.5. How can I update to a new oS but not High Sierra. I have downloaded various versions but it just won't let me update. I cannot go to High Sierra as it causes problems with my CS5 programs. Any suggestions would be great.

Whatever you've downloaded is most likely an incremental update - the base installers for any OS version are only available at the app store. And, Apple always removes the earlier version of an OS when a new one is introduced. So, since High Sierra has been introduced, that is the only one available.
Unless you've downloaded an installer previously - it would be listed under your Purchases - you are out of luck if you do not have an older Mac which cannot install HS.

Here's what you will have to do:
Install El Capitan or Later from Scratch
If possible backup your files.
- Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
- Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
- When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
- Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
- Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
- Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
- Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
- Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.
This will install the version of OS X you had installed.

Hi Debby,
I understand that your iPhone showed the same parked car location for a week, and after removing that it won't update your new parking location. I'm happy to provide some help for this issue.
Restart your iPhone, and then check out the article below to learn how this process works:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
How to find your parked car with Maps on your iPhone - Apple Support
When you leave your vehicle, your iPhone disconnects from Bluetooth, which lets Maps mark the location of your car. To edit your car's location, open Maps and tap
or add a photo of where you parked.
For this to work, you will have need to use your iPhone paired with your car stereo using Bluetooth. If you're having this issue when connected to Bluetooth, try unpairing your stereo before setting it up and testing this out again:
Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Unpair a Bluetooth accessory
To unpair a Bluetooth accessory, tap Settings > Bluetooth, find the device you want to unpair, and tap
, then Forget this Device.
When you Forget this Device on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, that accessory is removed from the list of available Bluetooth devices. To add the Bluetooth accessory to your device again, place it back in discovery mode and repeat the steps above to pair it again.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

If you purchased AppleCare + for your device, then it probably would fall under the "2 incidents of accidental damage" portion of the coverage:
AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone1 and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a service fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage, plus applicable tax.2
Here is the link to the AppleCare + page: AppleCare+ - iPhone - Apple
Otherwise, no.

Okay, you are right:) I guess I don't know how to ask what I am wanting to know. I have an iphone and an ipad which accept the male connector. Why would I have two M-M cables? What would they be used for other than for a place to attach two female cables
