In my opinion, RAIDs should never be used for a boot or startup drive. They are primarily used for faster data storage. I use one for my backup drive but I use a mirrored RAID for redundancy protection. I recommend making a bootable backup on another drive, removing the RAID setup and cloning the bootable backup to one of the RAID's drive and repurposing the other for added storage or for backup. You could also repurpose the RAID for backup by converting it to a mirrored array.

RAID Basics

For basic definitions and discussion of what a RAID is and the different types of RAIDs see RAIDs.  Additional discussions plus advantages and disadvantages of RAIDs and different RAID arrays see:

RAID Tutorial;

RAID Array and Server: Hardware and Service Comparison.

Hardware or Software RAID?

RAID Hardware Vs RAID Software - What is your best option?

RAID is a method of combining multiple disk drives into a single entity in order to improve the overall performance and reliability of your system. The different options for combining the disks are referred to as RAID levels. There are several different levels of RAID available depending on the needs of your system. One of the options available to you is whether you should use a Hardware RAID solution or a Software RAID solution.

RAID Hardware is always a disk controller to which you can cable up the disk drives. RAID Software is a set of kernel modules coupled together with management utilities that implement RAID in Software and require no additional hardware.

Pros and cons Software RAID is more flexible than Hardware RAID. Software RAID is also considerably less expensive. On the other hand, a Software RAID system requires more CPU cycles and power to run well than a comparable Hardware RAID System. Also, because Software RAID operates on a partition by partition basis where a number of individual disk partitions are grouped together as opposed to Hardware RAID systems which generally group together entire disk drives, Software RAID tends to be slightly more complicated to run. This is because it has more available configurations and options. An added benefit to the slightly more expensive Hardware RAID solution is that many Hardware RAID systems incorporate features that are specialized for optimizing the performance of your system.

For more detailed information on the differences between Software RAID and Hardware RAID, you may want to read: Hardware RAID vs. Software RAID: Which Implementation is Best for my Application?

Thanks but it’s what I already mentioned that this version is exclusive to snow leopard users. Mavericks users can’t download it.

I have however found a copy in someone’s google drive. Now I have to determine if it’s been compromised in any way. I wonder if there is like an md5 system for apple files.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much.

I had to unpair the watch from iPhone, which resulted in unpairing and back-up and a warning that the watch was not properly paired, so I was told to reset the watch to factory settings.

I reset the watch.

Then, both watch and iPhone were in a position to pair each other. The process was more sophisticated and took longer than my first pairing. there was also a synchronization phase, but after 10 to 15 minutes the watch was paired again and looked the same as before unpairing. It took some more minutes so that all the applications to be installed again on the watch (this was done automatically).

Very happy to have my watch working again!

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time. You may need to do this 2-3 times.

Reset NVRAM/PRAM

Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.

Hello ecinajtforcroom,

It appears that after an update, you have lost your message threads and you are looking for a way to retrieve those. If you have a recent backup of your device that had those messages on there, you can restore your device from that backup. Please see the article below for additional information.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Please note that any changes that were made to the iPhone after the backup was completed will result in that data being deleted once the backup has been restored.

Regards.

The radios (cellular/wifi/bluetooth/GPS) necessary for locating your iPhone are what consume the most power in any phone, even more than the screen. Try to enable plane mode and see how much longer your battery lasts, you'll be amazed. In my opinion, that's why the feature you are thinking of currently cannot exist, because of these technical limitations.
