Trying to understand Photos

It loaded automatically all the photos I had in the shared folders in the cloud and my photo stream.

That is how it is meant to be and differently from how iPhoto or Aperture are handling My Photo Stream and Shared Streams (albums).  Photos will import all photos automatically from My Photo Stream and Shared albums to the Photos Library, while in  iPhoto or Aperture you could disable the automatic import from the streams.

But I do not see this as a problem, since you can have at most 1000 photos in My Photo Stream, and so you are assured, that all photos from My Photo Stream will be automatically saved to the Photos Library.

Is that the way it works? I decided not to start importing images from other devices until I understand this fully.

I just imported 2 images from the photo stream and when I try to locate them, the option Revel in Finder does no longer exist?

Photos is a Photos Manager, not a file manager. It imports the original image files and the internal databases model the relations between the photos represented by the image files. If you just want to manage image files, use the Finder, not Photos.

Photos is a database for photos to help you organize your photos according to the attributes of photos, much more than a file manager can do. You can search for photos according to the camera that took the photo, according to the focal length, aperture, flash, the persons in the photo, the location - all attributes of a photo as opposed to a file. You can easily keep track of the relations between the different edited versions of your photos, and can always revert all edits to the original version. Photos will even try to understand the contents of a photo and classify them automatically into categories, so you can search for sunsets or animals, or mountains or beaches with having to annotate the photos with keywords or titles for sunsets etc.

Photos will help you find related photos to the photo you are currently viewing.  While viewing a photo, click on "Details", and you will see links to photos showing the same persons or taken at the same location, ar taken at the same time. I prefer a photo manager to a file manager, because there are more relations between photos than can be modeled by files and folders.

So,if you want the power of a digital asset management system for photos, it is very useful. If you simply want to treat your digital photos as image files, and do not need to organize them according to photo attributes, use the Finder and few folders.

The "Reveal in Finder" option is only available, if you are using a referenced library and prevent photos from copying the photos in the library. Then you are responsible to manage the original master files. I cannot recommend it. It is error prone and a disaster waiting to happen.

Or does macOS always use the native resolution of the display and just scale everything?

That one. The Mac OS has never supported resolution independence. If you use a lower screen resolution in the System Preferences, the OS just makes that "size" fit the native resolution, even though the actual display buffer size hasn't changed. That's why a 3840x2160 screen shot still gets you a 5120x2880 image.

And then there's the other side of that you've seen. Despite the faux lower screen size choice, some apps still recognize the screen's native resolution and displays 1:1, and not scaled up to match the lower display resolution.

I've used iPhones since the iPhone 4 and have never had a damaged screen -- but I could drop one tomorrow and if it hit the wrong way I'd no longer be able to say that. There may be some things that would help -- Otterbox with "certified drop protection" is one that seems popular, but none that I have tried or want to use. http://www.otterbox.com/en-us/iphone-6-6s/defender-series-case/apl2-iph15.html#p refn1=device_name&prefv1=iPhone+6&start=…

Empty Caches. You can either choose Safari menu > Clear History Or,  if you do not want to remove History go to Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced and check the “Show Develop Menu” in Menubar. Then, on that menu > “Empty Caches”.

Hi,

That whole date would be deleted, including any unique files (they would not be saved separately, but be on later backups if they were created before that backup was deleted).

Only the iPad Pro models, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4 support Split view.

The 1st gen iPad Air has a slightly less powerful A7 CPU and only 1 GB of RAM that Apple has deemed NOT sufficient to utilise the full split view feature that was made available in iOS 9.

This is not enough computing power to handle split view multitasking.

The iPad Pros iPad Air and Mini 4 ALL have faster CPUs with, at least,  2 GBs of RAM which make these more capable of more efficiently using the split view feature.

I have an iPad Pro and use both slide over AND split view interchangeably.

Slide Over still has many uses.

Especially if you still want/need to maximise screen real estate for a primary working app.

Good Luck to You!
