All of a sudden Messages sent to me are only received on my iPhone, not on my iPad or Mac. But my replies appear everywhere.

My Messages are not syncing with my IPAD. I used to get them months ago but now  new messages come to my phone only. How do I get them on both?

For Messages to sync, you need to be logged in to iCloud using the same Apple ID on both devices. When you tap,on your name at the top of Settings, your iCloud Apple ID appears under your name at the top of the page on the right.

You must also be logged in to Messages with the same Apple ID on both devices.

Have you tried this?

Hi,

It might be possible.

On the iPhone if you turn Off the Messages app then it can still do SMS.

Related to that is the Number can be deselected in Send and Receive.

The reason I know that is I have happen twice.

If a iPhone loses power and stays Off for a  while then the Number gets "De-registered" at the iMessages Servers.

This then effects the "Sync" links and your start to notice on other devices.

Obviously turning the App Off causes the same issues.

As I found out I had issue and started to check Settings.

On the iPhone > Settings > Messages > Send and Receive the iPhone Number was deselected.

As the items is greyed out it is not alterable by the User.

I was unaware of a reason why it happened.

You have to turn the App Off, preferably put the iPhone in Airplane Mode to break with server before working backwards though those steps and allowing the Number to Verify again.

It sounds like your Contact may have discovered his phone was not Logged in to iMessages for whatever reason.

You shouldn't need to.

Are the bubbles blue or green?

If green, the failure is an issue with your carrier, most often due to a weak signal.

For example, in areas with a single bar of coverage, most every SMS I attempt to send will fail, but that's not the fault of the phone but of the carrier's network.

I believe I've figured it out just by fooling around with my phone. Although DND is OFF, I've turned on EMERGENCY BYPASS on my Android-friend contacts. I'm now getting alerts/vibration.

Many thanks to those who replied. Hope this helps others.

Solution: trash was not assigned correctly by Apple Mail when setting up accounts again.  In "mailbox behavior" I found out that the mailboxes assigned didn't really exist and I set them right - this stopped the annoying pop-up, and the trash landed where it was supposed to land: in the trash (and not on the floor, on the wall, under the table, or out the window  )

I think it is simply that Apple Mail is a bit a sloppy.

If I were to write a hit parade of annoying pop-ups that pop us when something doesn't work (and which are not helpful), the one that caused this thread would be in the top 5.

Hello fredfromtaylor,

From your post I understand that your Messages are no longer working on the iPad. If you also use an iPhone, what I would like to have you do is to check and make sure that you have the Continuity settings set up. You can review this article for more information.

Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch

Set up SMS and MMS messaging

Use this feature with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements. Make sure that your devices are set up as follows:

  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Make sure that the Apple ID at the top of the screen is the same Apple ID that you're using for iMessage on your other devices. Add a check to your phone number and email address, so that you can be reached by iMessage at both. Do the same on your iPad or iPod touch.
  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding, then choose which devices to allow to send and receive text messages from this iPhone. If you're using two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, a verification code appears on each of your other devices: enter that code on your iPhone.
  • On Mac, open Messages, then choose Messages > Preferences. Click Accounts, then select your iMessage account. Make sure that the Apple ID shown here is the same Apple ID that you're using on your other devices. Add a check to your phone number and email address.

Additionally, please review the guidance in this support article:

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Let me know how things go. If you still have issues, please respond back with what exactly is going on when you attempt to use Messages on the iPad.

Have great day!
