Make the font size bigger	Command-Plus Sign (+)
Make the font size smaller	Command-Minus Sign (-)

 

Double tap the shift key to activate shift lock. Then tap it once again to release shift lock.

Just to close the loop on this and hopefully save someone else considerable time.  I purchased an apple keyboard and had the same problem with the apple keyboard as the MS keyboard.  The ultimate solution was to disconnect a dlink USB hub that I have connected to the macmini.  Once the Dlink hub was disconnected, either KB worked just fine.  I will buy another hub an see how that goes.

Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech >

     Speak Selection : turn Off here

     Typing Feedback : switch everything Off here

Go to System Preferences>Keyboard and check 'Show Keyboard and Character Viewers in menu bar'. Then in the menu bar click the icon and choose 'Show Keyboard viewer'. Press the modifier keys  - shift and/or option (alt) -0 to see the available characters. Many more characters are available from the Character Viewer where they are displayed and you double-click them to add to your document.
