My MacBook Pro acts as if the Option key is pressed. I don’t think that it is a hardware issue because I had changed the internal keyboard few months back for a totally different issue (broken shift key) and I tried a live USB Linux

Hi Ahit,
I understand that your MacBook Pro acts as though your option key is pressed when using macOS on your MacBook Pro. I'm happy to provide some help for this issue.
Based on the troubleshooting you've tried already, I recommend that you try to reset your SMC:

Keyboard Shortcut for Increasing/Decreasing Font Sizes
Favor from:
Hi fbmelongal,
I understand that you are looking for a keyboard shortcut to increase and decrease the font size when typing in various apps. I'm happy to provide some help for this.
You can find the correct keyboard shortcut for this in Pages in the article below:
Pages for Mac: Pages for Mac keyboard shortcuts
Make the font size bigger
Command-Plus Sign (+)
Make the font size smaller
Command-Minus Sign (-)
Note that different apps may have different keyboard shortcuts for this, if they support this functionality. It's best to consult the documentation for the app you're using to learn more.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

Just to close the loop on this and hopefully save someone else considerable time. I purchased an apple keyboard and had the same problem with the apple keyboard as the MS keyboard. The ultimate solution was to disconnect a dlink USB hub that I have connected to the macmini. Once the Dlink hub was disconnected, either KB worked just fine. I will buy another hub an see how that goes.
