Hi Ensatina,

I understand that your MacBook Pro can connect to Wi-Fi fine, but your boyfriend's MacBook Pro is unable to see any additional Wi-Fi networks. I'm happy to provide some help for this issue.

First, make sure that you go through the steps provided for this in the following article:

If you can’t connect to a Wi-Fi network on Mac - Apple Support

Then test this issue out in a new user account:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

Thanks but it’s what I already mentioned that this version is exclusive to snow leopard users. Mavericks users can’t download it.

I have however found a copy in someone’s google drive. Now I have to determine if it’s been compromised in any way. I wonder if there is like an md5 system for apple files.

So it sounds like if I just delete the iMovie and iPhoto programs I should be good to go.

That should work, yes. As iMovie is now free, you can purchase it for yourself for free from the AppStore, after you delete iMovie. The same goes for GarageBand, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, btw.

I appears the only way to properly transfer ownership of a Mac is pretty much the same way as you would do it for a PC - slick the drive and reload.

It is worse.  This will not transfer the ownership of applications, it will just stop the Mac from pestering you with update notices, that you cannot follow up on.

Hi there,

You do in fact have to change your phone # in WhatsApp prior to restore.

This happened to me.

I restored trying two different types of devices but WhatsApp didn't transfer over.

I went back to former device, updated my phone # in WhatsApp there, backed up old device with updated phone # in Whatsapp,  then began the process again.

My info restored with no problems then.

I was able to find out what I needed to do on WhatsApp's website.

Hope that helps ~

Please read Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support and then restart in Safe Mode and try to delete the files. Once done, then restart normally.

Hello, kiritfromwilmington.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It's my understanding that you're unable to restore your iPhone 5s. I do have some suggestions, but can you help us out with a little more detail? For example are you getting any kind of error messages? You can also check out this article:

If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can put your iOS device in recovery mode, then restore it with iTunes.

In these situations, you might need to use recovery mode to restore your device:

  • iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
  • If your screen is stuck on the Apple logo for several minutes with no progress bar.
  • You see the connect to iTunes screen.

Learn what to do if you see the progress bar on your screen for several minutes.

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

  1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes
  2. If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
  3. While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps, but don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo, wait until the connect to iTunes screen appears:

    • On an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the connect to iTunes screen.
    •
    • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see connect to iTunes screen.
    •
    • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the connect to iTunes screen.

  4. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the connect to iTunes screen, let the download finish, then repeat step 3.
  5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.

Let us know and we'll go from there.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

Sounds like it was corrupted from an improper shutdown.  I've had that happen when I forced a power down with my environment frozen.  It doesn't usually happen, but it can happen.

What do you need out of this?  Sometimes the only thing that can be done is to reformat and start over again.  If you have a backup, you can start from that.  If you have something important on that drive that's nowhere else, you might want to get whatever you can off that drive and then put it aside for when you can attempt to recover that data.  If it's not removable you've choices to make over how important that data is vs getting your machine running again.
