I received a macbook pro that has been wiped. I have a bootable usb drive of mac os sierra and dvd of Lion. When I try to boot up from either, I get a crossed out circle and it turns off. I can't do internet recovery either. What can I do?

I also tried booting using the option key and the flash drive shows up but I can't select it. It is grayed out. I tried PRAM. I even tried a different hard drive. Same issue.

you can't run Sierra on that system, you need a MacBook Pro Mid 2010 or later

use El Capitan and make a bootable image using Apple directions
