iPad mini4 desktop icons won't reload after restore

I did a restore of my iPad mini4 this afternoon, and two hours later I'm unable to open a lot of apps because the desktop icons are "loading".  Everything else seems to be as before -- my photos and music area all in their proper places, and as far as I can tell, the apps are still there.  But many of them -- Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Bose Soundtouch -- have been grayed out with a "loading" message for the past several hours, and their doesn't seem to be any progress being made.

The iPad is till connected to my PC, and I still have iTunes open.  I have the latest version of iOS and iTunes.  Any ideas as to what is going on?  Oh, and I've also tried holding the sleep switch and home button ("rebooting") to no avail.

After restoring from a backup, these things tend to happen, especially if you have a large number of apps. I would leave the iPad overnight, and if they are still loading then try deleting the apps and downloading them again. Edit: also, make sure you are connected to WiFi so that the apps can download.

Hope this helps!
