Safari screen claimed to be Apple Macintosh System Alert, saying my data was at risk and telling me to call 1-844-316-5**5. I'm guessing this is a scam, but is it also a sign of a problem? Do I need to run some sort of cleaner? Thanks!

Hi. When clicking a link in Safari, I got a screen that said: "ATTENTION Verizon Online Lic User: Your Apple macintosh has been blocked. Apple Macintosh System Alert! System has been infected due to unexpected error. Please contact certified Mac technicians 1-844-316-5**5 Immediately," etc. I'm guessing this is a scam and didn't call the number. But does it suggest I've been hacked in some way? Should I run some sort of cleaner? Thanks!
